Bir aracın kütle hava akış sensörü olarak da bilinen hava akış ölçeri, motorun düzgün çalışmasında çok önemli bir rol oynar. Hatalı bir hava akış ölçerin en yaygın belirtilerinden biri, motor performansındaki azalmadır. Hava akış ölçer motora giren hava miktarını doğru şekilde ölçmüyorsa ECU hava-yakıt karışımını doğru şekilde ayarlayamayabilir. Bu, zayıf hızlanmaya, güç çıkışının azalmasına ve genel performansın yavaşlamasına neden olabilir. Kötü bir hava akış ölçerin başka bir işareti de yakıt verimliliğindeki azalmadır.
